Modern Classics, New Perspectives

Modern Classics, New Perspectives

The Village Library of Cooperstown is excited to share that we have received a $2500 grant provided by the Library Fund of the Community Foundation for South Central New York. The funding is for ‘Modern Classics, New Perspectives;’ this year’s long series of book discussions and lectures will engage our community in revisiting the classics with fresh eyes.

Titles include: The Bell Jar, Sylvia Plath; Excellent Women, Barbara Pym; To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee; In Cold Blood, Truman Capote; Passing, Nella Larsen; If Beale Street Could Talk, James Baldwin; The House of the Spirits, Isabel Allende; The Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan; Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury; 1984, George Orwell; A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Betty Smith; and A Separate Peace, John Knowles.

All book group kits (sets of 10-12) will be made available Four County System-wide after our discussion so that other libraries can host similar conversations. Our program will run from June 2022 through July 2023.
