Drop off is at the side entrance to the Library building located at 22 Main Street in Cooperstown. It’s not too soon to start setting aside those gently used books you no longer need!
Donations of used books in good condition are welcome. Please—no textbooks or outdated travel books! CDs, DVDs, and audio books are also accepted. Donated books will be sold at the Summer Book Sale from June 26 through July 4. All proceeds benefit the Village Library of Cooperstown.
Thank you for all the warm wishes in this first, very busy, month! We’ve taken your survey results and feedback about library hours into consideration, and we’d like to announce our new schedule effective June 1, 2021 through Labor Day. Please note that Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays we open at 8:00 – ahead of tourist crowds and paid parking- to better serve you. I’d like to add: we’ve heard your request for Sunday hours, and we expect to return to schedule for Fall-Winter.
To begin, the Trustees of the Village Library of Cooperstown extend their heartfelt gratitude to Library Director, David Kent, for his 22 years of service. His focus, consistency and steadfast commitment to the library over the past two decades is admirable. We will miss seeing his bike outside the entrance. Please stop by the Library to bid him well in his retirement before his final day on Friday, April 2.
On April 21st we are excited to welcome our new Library Director, Heather Urtz. A Mohawk, N.Y. native, Heather brings a wealth of library experience with diverse urban and rural communities. Her most recent position was at the Mid-York Library System in Utica. She is ready to collaborate to build programming efforts that reflect the vibrancy of our unique community. She has already impressed many of us with her creative and energetic ideas to make the library a welcoming and inclusive space for all.
During this time of transition for our Library’s leadership, we will be temporarily revising the Library’s public hours from April 1, 2021 until May 31, 2021 to help us get our bearings.
Our new hours will be:
Sunday & Monday – CLOSED
Tuesday through Friday – Open 9:00am through 5:00pm
Saturday – Open 10:00am through 2:00pm
Effective immediately, the Village Library of Cooperstown will waive all overdue fines for materials checked out as of February 8, 2021 and returned through June 30, 2021. Any fines accumulated up to this point will remain on the borrower’s account. Any reduction to fines currently owed by the borrower must be approved by the Library Director.
